VITEK Mortgage Group is led by a seasoned team of executives with backgrounds in real estate, commercial and residential lending, and project management.
Harry L. Duncan
Harry L. Duncan is the President of VITEK Mortgage Group, a mortgage banking company that
he co-founded in 1987. The company originates residential mortgages primarily in California
and is licensed in several Western states. Headquartered in Sacramento, CA, the company has
20 branches located in Northern California.
Under Duncan's leadership, VITEK Mortgage Group continues to grow with well over 100 employees and is recognized as one of the largest retail mortgage banking companies in the regions it serves. With a clear vision for VITEK and well defined strategies, Mr. Duncan and his accomplished management team are committed to building a sustainable mortgage banking platform that is a leader in the industry.
Duncan earned his BA in Economics from the University of California, Berkeley. His professional experience includes all aspects of residential lending, income property financing, and management of small to mid-sized companies. He is a licensed real estate broker. Prior to founding VITEK, Duncan held several increasingly responsible management positions with Home Savings of America (now Chase). He is a Sacramento native and outdoor enthusiast.
Philip J. Duncan
Philip Duncan joined VITEK in 1992 as a principal and leader in residential lending.
His vision and expertise in sales and marketing have been instrumental in establishing
VITEK with brand name recognition as a premier mortgage banking operation. Twin brother
of the President, he was the company's first originator of home loans. Duncan now
focuses on providing marketing to the sales team along with business development including
the company's reverse mortgage loan channel.
As a second generation lender and native Sacramentan, he is committed to his career and community. He was a top producer for years prior to VITEK. Beginning as a loan officer at Mason McDuffie/Weyerhaeuser, he rose to Assistant Branch Manager before moving to Criterion Mortgage Corporation as a co-owner.
Known as an outdoor adventurer, Mr. Duncan has been a licensed Real Estate Broker since 1983. He is a graduate of the Mortgage Bankers Association School of Mortgage Banking. A Certified Toastmaster, he has served and spoken numerous times to the Sacramento Association of Realtors ® where he was recognized as Affiliate of the Year in 2000. Duncan earned his BA from the University of California, Davis in International Relations/Political Economy. He also attended one year at the Universidad Compultense in Madrid, Spain and is fluent in Spanish.
David Steep
As Vice President of Production, Dave Steep has over 18 years experience in real estate
sales and lending. Mr. Steep began his career in 1991 with Cook and Cook Realtors® and
quickly became a top producing agent, reaching "Top Achievers" status six times. He went
on to manage and train their realtors® and in 1996 created a successful "Training
Academy" where he honed his coaching skills over a period of years. In 2001 he
transitioned into the mortgage industry as a loan originator for Vision Mortgage.
Mr. Steep joined VITEK in 2006 as division manager, focusing on developing the strategic alliance between VITEK and Lyon real estate agents. With his combined skills and understanding of real estate sales and mortgage lending, he has been instrumental in growing loan production through strengthening our relationship with Lyon Real Estate, one of the nation’s largest privately owned real estate firms. He is an accomplished public speaker and can be found training real estate agents on the topics of REO and short sales, as well as mortgage loan originators on lead generation and superior customer service. In 2007 Mr. Steep was promoted to Production Manager and elevated to Vice President of Production the following year. He is responsible for leading VITEK’s entire production team, including 22 branch offices, as well as recruiting and retaining the top talent in the industry.
Dave has been happily married for over 18 years and has one teenage son. He is an avid sports fan and enjoys coaching football, baseball, and basketball.
Alan Wackman
Alan Wackman is VITEK Mortgage Group's Vice President of Operations/Secondary Marketing
and leads our Mortgage Banking Division. Mr. Wackman has been a leader in many facets
of the mortgage industry since 1992. He began his career with the Small Business
Administration where he assisted homeowners with home loans in disaster areas across
the United States. He was recruited from the SBA to Bank of America as an underwriter.
He transitioned to the origination side of the business when he joined VITEK as a top
producing mortgage loan originator where he stayed for over 9 years. To further advance his
career, Mr. Wackman was recruited to start a mortgage banking company from the ground
up. He and his team built a successful mortgage banking business in the Sacramento
region, where he managed for 6 years. During this time period, Mr. Wackman played a
significant role in facilitating the merger between this company and another large
mortgage company in the Sacramento area. Upon completion of this merger, Mr. Wackman
returned to VITEK as part of the Senior Management Team.
Mr. Wackman oversees VITEK Mortgage Group's operations team and secondary marketing department. With his well-rounded experience and forward thinking, he is constantly working to improve VITEK's business designs.
As his avocations, Mr. Wackman is part owner of a local family winery in the Sacramento area and a partner in his family's farming business. Involving himself in the community, Mr. Wackman works with youth sports as a board member and as a baseball coach for his young sons. He is an avid water skier, snow skier and enjoys active weekends with his family.
Scott Battenburg
Scott Battenburg joined VITEK in 2010 as our Chief Financial Officer. Mr. Battenburg has a broad range of financial and operational expertise in numerous industries including financial services, consumer products, retail and high tech. He has held senior management positions with a number of companies at various stages of development from startup through Fortune 500. He began his career in public accounting as an audit professional with KPMG Peat Marwick in Los Angeles.
After tenure in public accounting, Mr. Battenburg joined LA Gear, Inc. assuming progressively increased responsibilities in finance and operations. After leaving LA Gear, Inc. as Director of Finance, he joined The Money Store. A member of the senior management team, Mr. Battenburg led a team of financial analysts providing detailed insight into business unit performance and played a key role in developing the financial and operational reporting systems. His next role was Vice President, Chief Financial Officer for Razor USA where he implemented financial and operational systems allowing the company to manage revenue growth exceeding $200m in the first year of operation. In the course of his career, Mr. Battenburg has successfully managed a range of functions including general accounting, financial and SEC reporting, treasury operations, human resources and information technology.
Mr. Battenburg has been happily married for over 18 years, is a golf fanatic and loves the great outdoors. He graduated with honors from the California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo with a BS in Business Administration, emphasis in finance and accounting. He is also a veteran of the United States Army where he served as a paratrooper with the XVIII Airborne Corps.
Mark Walbert
Mark Walbert joined VITEK in 2007 as Director of Human Resources. Mr. Walbert's broad based
lending and operational background has led to his expanded role of directing a team responsible
for the HR, Facilities, and Information Technology functions of the organization.
Mr. Walbert has held various executive and management positions since beginning his career in the financial services industry in 1995. During his tenure with First Union National Bank, he developed and oversaw a successful Corporate Training Academy which effectively integrated up to 100 lending professionals per month into a nationwide division of 5000 employees. He went on to direct a 17 member full service Human Resources team for HomEq Servicing, a nationwide division of Wachovia servicing over $25 billion in assets. On the operational side, Mr. Walbert was a key leader and manager in the creation of Accredited Home Lender's retail lending division. The start-up division grew to 600 employees in 2 years with 36 branches in 20 states.
Mr. Walbert has been a licensed California Real Estate Broker since 2004 and a certified Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) since 2001. He completed leadership and executive management certifications from The Center for Creative Leadership and California State University, Sacramento. He also holds an MBA in Real Estate Finance from Golden Gate University and BS in Professional Aeronautics from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University.
